Donald Tusk on a special program on artificial intelligence in schools

During his speech at the ECF in Sopot, the Prime Minister focused on the topic of artificial intelligence and the threats and challenges it poses to us. As he said, “we cannot stop at helpless prophecies that AI will take over the world and deprive us of millions of jobs.” — The facts are not so pessimistic and the forecasts should not be so alarmist, he pointed out.
— There is no doubt that the development of modern technologies can and will pose a challenge for individual industries and the labor market. It may also constitute a huge challenge for the state, including the Polish state, for example by making Poland dependent on global companies on the digital market or the largest world powers that can afford to try to control this new cyber world hand in hand with large consortiums, he added.

Tusk emphasized that we should now take actions that will restore our sense of control over the fact that we should have tools such as AI, and not them on us.
— We have the most talented IT specialists. Artificial intelligence was largely the domain of Polish scientists and innovators. They realized their dreams abroad. And this is a problem we have to deal with. If we want to talk seriously about technological sovereignty, we must be able to retain people who will create it thanks to their intellectual capabilities, talents and education, he said.

Special equipment will be delivered to Polish schools. Donald Tusk on details
– We need to look for all possible paths and methods to make the stay in Poland comparable for the most talented people, in terms of attractiveness, to those places in the world where they are now more likely to try to realize their aspirations and dreams – he added.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Poland wants to be a co-creator of artificial intelligence tools at the European level, and not just a recipient. — We need well-educated young people who are aware of their actions. We have decided to allocate nearly PLN 2 billion from mainly European funds for the “artificial intelligence laboratories” project, which will go to primary and secondary schools throughout the country, he said.

As he said, it is about 8 thousand. primary schools and 4 thousand secondary schools. — Deliveries of equipment to these schools have already started and will end in the second half of July. We selected these schools so that they were proportionally geographically dispersed throughout Poland. I am convinced that this will work very well for teachers, not only students. This laboratory will include equipment: a laptop, a central unit for AI services, a network device and other necessary elements so that our children can actually feel that these tools are within their reach, he concluded.
