The government's plan to increase the national minimum wage
According to the procedure, the Council of Ministers must submit an official proposal regarding the rates for the next year to the Council for Social Dialogue (RDS) by June 15. The proposal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy is based on a specific relationship to average earnings in the country. The resort emphasized that the proposed amount of PLN 4,986 is exactly 50 percent. forecast average salary in 2027, which is to amount to PLN 9,971. On the other hand the minimum hourly rate is to be PLN 32.60.
This constitutes an increase of PLN 180 (3.7%) and PLN 1.20 (3.8%), respectively, compared to 2026.
“According to the position of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, the minimum wage should constitute at least 50 percent of the average wage in the economy. This condition was met in 2026. The Ministry will strive to ensure that this is also the case in 2027.” – noted the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.
Trade unions want more, employers call for moderation
The ministry's proposal is only the beginning, and the positions of social partners differ significantly. The largest trade union headquarters expect much stronger support for those earning the least money. In their joint position, NSZZ “Solidarność”, OPZZ and FZZ proposed that next year's minimum wage should be at least PLN 5,200 gross. The labor side argues that higher rates are necessary to protect living standards in an era of rising costs of living.

Business takes a completely different approach. In turn, the employers' side wants the increase in the minimum wage in 2027 to be based on the indicator resulting from the currently applicable act. These provisions guarantee an annual increase by the inflation rate, with a possible adjustment for GDP growth, if the minimum wage is lower than half of the national average.
What are the deadlines and what does the salary include?
There is not much time for compromise. After the government presents its proposal, representatives of employees, employers and the government have 30 days to develop a common position. If they succeed, the new rate will be announced in Monitor Polski. However, if the RDS does not agree on the minimum wage on time, the government sets it by regulation of the Council of Ministers, and it is announced in the Journal of Laws by September 15.
It is worth remembering that the minimum wage is the employee's total income for nominal working time. It includes not only the basic salary, but also other components and bonuses. However, there are exceptions – the minimum wage does not include:
- internship allowance,
- allowance for overtime work,
- jubilee award,
- retirement and pension severance pay,
- allowance for night work.
