Bozhidar Chorbadzhiyski (30), the Bulgarian central defender of Hermannstadt, is at the center of a scandal of international proportions.
He is directly targeted by a large-scale criminal investigation in Poland, officially being a suspect in a file targeting a tax evasion network through fictitious VAT invoices, according to golazo.ro.
Bozhidar Chorbadzhiyski, Hermannstadt's footballer, suspect in a tax evasion investigation with damages of €3.5 million
The case is handled by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdansk. Polish investigators claim to have uncovered an organized crime group that had set up an illegal financial scheme specifically for athletes. Chorbadzhiyski is just one of 68 players investigated in this octopus.
The mechanism by which the Polish state was exposed was extremely well developed. Footballers received invoices for services that were never actually provided (promotion, social media management, transfer consultancy or technical-tactical analysis).
The players paid only the value of the VAT written on the documents, the rest of the amount being returned to them, and the invoices were entered in the accounting to justify fictitious expenses, substantially reducing the fees and taxes owed to the state.
The total damage calculated by the Gdansk prosecutors in this case exceeds 3.5 million euros.

The file reached the table of the judges in Sibiu
The prosecutors in Gdansk issued a European investigation order, requesting the support of the Romanian authorities to officially bring Chorbadzhiyski's accusations to their attention and to hear him.
The file was officially registered at the Sibiu Court on May 25. The appearance took place on May 27, 2026.
Chorbadzhiyski was sent from the first minute by coach Dorinel Munteanu (57 years old) in the second leg of the crucial retention/promotion tie in the Superliga, played against the Voluntari.
The Bulgarian stopper had already ticked off 78 minutes in the round match, a game in which his team had managed to prevail at the limit, score 3-2.
Bozhidar Chorbadzhiyski played 14 games this season for Hermannstadt, scoring 2 goals and providing an assist. He is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 350,000 euros.
