The team of Romania, consisting of Bernadette Szocs, Elizabeta Samara, Andreea Dragoman, Adina Diaconu and Elena Zaharia, is the main favorite at the European Team Championship, which debuts on Sunday, in Croatia, in Zadar.

Romania is one of the European table tennis forces, the women's team being present on the podium in the last five editions of the European Championship, twice conquering gold and three times silver.

In the first phase it is played in groups, and Romania, the main favorite, is part of Group A, along with Wales and Luxembourg. The first meeting for the Romanian is Sunday, from 8:00 pm, against Wales, following on Monday, from the same time, to face Luxembourg.

It is played by the format “the best in five simple matches”, and the first two ranked in the eight groups qualify in the finals.

Since 2013, Romania has been the only team to cross Germany, the champion of the last three editions. Germany can equal, at this edition, the absolute record of four consecutive victories obtained by a female team. This record is currently owned by the Netherlands, winning band in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Both teams were based, in the years they dominated, on naturalized athletes in Asia.

Germany has, at this edition, Sabine Winter, Nina Mittelham, Yuan Wan, Anett Kaufmann and Mia Griesel.

In addition to Germany, in Zadar, only Austria, England, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Portugal have a naturalized players in Asia.

In the men's contest, Romania is a favorite 6 and has Eduard Ionescu, Iulian Chiriță, Ovidiu Ionescu, Darius Movileanu and Andrei Istrate. The “tricolors” were distributed in Group F, along with the Netherlands and Slovakia.
