In December 2025, the authoritarian leader of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenko, announced that the Oreshnik system had begun combat duty on the territory of the country in response to “contemporary threats in the region”.
Oreshnik is a Russian medium-range missile system, probably a modification of the RS-26 Rubezh missile, developed after 2012, capable of attacking targets at a distance of 5-5.5 thousand km. km. So far, the Russian armed forces have used this missile against Ukraine three times, most recently in the second half of May, when one or two missiles were used to attack the Kiev Oblast.
