Casper Ruud (27 years old, ranked 16th in the world) reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros after a marathon victory with Tommy Paul (29 years old, number 21 ATP). The Norwegian then explained why he started a YouTube channel and how he creates content for his fans.

For Casper Ruud and Tommy Paulthe 3rd round match at Roland Garros was a test of nerves, of inspiration in coming and receding waves, of resilience. One that the Norwegian won, 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-5in 4 hours and 43 minutes.

It was his third career comeback from 0-2 down. “Hard to say what made the difference. A few points. The stats show that I took care of my break points, which were three, and I won them all. He had two out of 14, totally unfortunate for him and happy for me. That's tennis“, he described the game. “It's such a brutal sport sometimes“.

He then added that his opponent was superior in the first two sets and his own serve helped him hang on. “He was playing so loose and aggressive, coming to the net, making my game look uncomfortable,” he explained, noting that the fast break in the third set probably changed the momentum a bit. “I told myself to take each set one at a time and see what happens from there.”

The victory brings him back to the round of 16 in Paris, for the fourth time, after the finals in 2022, 2023 and the semi-final of 2024.

Casper Ruud and the desire to show the world what a player's life is like

But Casper also has tennis concerns that go beyond practice, travel and matches. He opened a YouTube channel, seeking to show his fans what the life of a tennis player is like through various videos, some long, some shorter.

I came up with this idea towards the end of last year, to try, maybe next year or even this year, to give a behind the scenes look at my career and life and show what life is like as a professional tennis player“, he explained in the press conference in Paris.

  • His channel has 31,000 subscribersbut the most viewed video, “A day in my life”, collected 459,000 views.

“I've seen other athletes do it and I thought it was pretty interesting. We saw an opportunity to bring the camera behind the scenes, but tennis is a very repetitive sport,” Casper observed.

“We have new tours, of course, every week, but basically we do pretty much the same thing every day. It's not that easy to create more, new or fresh content. Obviously I've tried and I have some videos that are still in the process of editing that will come out,” he added.

Unfortunately, however, I did not have the opportunity to bring the cameraman to the slag season. So there won't be much from here, but I've tried to show some behind-the-scenes footage from the bigger tournaments. Obviously, it's not that easy to get accredited“, Ruud revealed.

There are so many other players around so you don't want to violate their privacy and so on. It's a challenge, but I thought it was fun and I'm glad some people enjoyed it. I tried to play a game of golf. I tried different things. So we'll see what happens in the future, but we've had a lot of positive reactions, which is really nice,” he concluded.
