Donald Trump has the final say on the Iran agreement

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously said that any US-Iran deal would depend on whether US President Donald Trump decides to support it. — It all depends on what the president intends to do. And President Trump will not conclude an unfavorable deal for Americans, he said, quoted by CNN.

During the press briefing, Bessent discussed details of the tentative agreement that was to be reached during talks between U.S. and Iranian negotiators. One of his assumptions was to extend the ceasefire by 60 days, which could pave the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Bessent noted that the deal would have to meet Trump's demands that Iran hand over highly enriched uranium and commit to ending its pursuit of nuclear weapons. He emphasized that matters related to the possible lifting of sanctions against Iran “would proceed very slowly.”
