The Rada voted for a sharp increase in defense spending


On May 28, the Verkhovna Rada adopted as a basis the government draft law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2026” regarding financial support for the security and defense sector” (No. 15224). The press service of the parliament reported this.

240 people's deputies voted in favor.

The document provides for an increase in state budget spending on the national security and defense sector by UAH 1.56 trillion and an increase in the budget reserve fund by UAH 40 billion. Another 40 billion was allocated for the implementation of sustainability plans for regions and individual cities.

The funds will be used for the purchase and modernization of weapons, monetary support for military personnel, as well as for the protection of energy infrastructure and replenishment of the budget reserve fund.

The Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee was instructed to finalize the document for the second reading using an abbreviated procedure.
