Jason Virgo, a member of the right-wing radical and anti-immigration One Nation party, was elected to the South Australian Parliament, but after this the politician gave a speech during which he burst into tears and confessed his love for migrants. News.com.au reported this on May 25.
The media noted that One Nation is widely associated with anti-immigration and anti-LGBTQ+ positions, but Virgo's speech seemed to turn this perception on its head.
“And if someone is trying to use me as a weapon, it says more about him than about me,” the deputy emphasized.
During his first appearance, Virgo announced that he was gay and in a relationship with a Muslim man from Indonesia. The deputy also said that most of his friends are migrants whom he “loves and respects.”
At the same time, the politician emphasized that his personal attitude towards migrants does not affect his political position. Virgo said Australia must tighten its controls on migration and reduce the rate of foreigners entering the country.
“The vast majority [мигрантов] just looking for a better life. At the same time, these two thoughts can coexist, and I believe that the level of migration in recent years has been too high,” the politician said.
