The goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas (29 years old) will not continue at U Cluj and next season. The announcement was made by the president Radu Constantea, who claims that the player will accept an offer from abroad.

The Lithuanian has been one of the most valued goalkeepers in the Superliga this season. U Cluj had a season beyond expectations and thanks to his interventions. The “Students” finished 2nd and played the final of the Romanian Betano Cup.

His contract expires at the end of the season, and Radu Constantea claims that U Cluj made a major financial effort to keep him. The Transylvanian official states that the team also exceeded the established salary ceiling, but the player was not convinced to continue.

Edvinas Gertmonas leaves U Cluj: “He has offers from stronger championships”

“I don't think he will continue. We made an offer a few months ago, we even went over the ceiling we have, but I think he has offers from stronger championships. He didn't tell us clearly if he signed with anyone, but I don't think there is a problem for him to continue with us.

We have several replacement options. Gabi Giurgiu and the goalkeeping coach are discussing. We will see. It depends on the decision of the technical staff and the financial side“, Radu Constantea declared for fanatik.ro.

Edvinas Gertmonas played 28 games this season for U Cluj, during which he scored 20 goals and kept a clean sheet in 13 games.

He is quoted by the specialized website Transfermarkt at 14 million euros. U Cluj also has Ștefan Lefter (21 years old) and Tudor Coșa (17 years old) as goalkeepers.

In total, Edvinas scored 74 matches in the U Cluj shirt, 30 of which were without a goal conceded.

Atlantas, Tauras, Rennes and Zalgiris are the clubs for which the Lithuanian has played throughout his career.
