An urgent letter from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky reporting a shortage of air defense systems was sent to institutions in Washington on May 26. Zelensky himself announced this in an address the next day.
The fact that Zelensky sent an urgent letter to US President Donald Trump and the US Congress was first reported today by the media, then this information was confirmed by the Office of the President. The letter, in particular, mentions a massive Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of May 24 and the possible launch of two Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles.
“It is rare that the leaders of another state address this way, in a letter, simultaneously to the President and the Congress of the United States of America. But the situation now is this: we need to act, act quickly, act effectively. It is important that America hears Ukraine,” Zelensky noted in the address.
Ukraine understands that a lot of attention is now being paid to the war in Iran, he continued.
“We also need to stop the war here in Europe, a very bloody war that has been going on for the fifth year at a full-scale level. And the faster we can provide more protection from ballistics, the faster we can make diplomacy work. As long as Russia relies on missiles, its interest in diplomacy is insincere. We must fix this. And we can only fix it together, with America. Ukraine is grateful to America for all the support. It will be even more grateful for a decent peace and guaranteed security. Everyone this is possible if there is enough determination,” Zelensky concluded.
