An unusual incident that looks like something out of a black comedy movie took place in the US state of Nebraska, where a woman was injured after a dog accidentally fired a shotgun in a vehicle parked in front of a store.
The incident happened in the city of Scottsbluff, and local police were alerted around 12:07 a.m. after a call to emergency services announced that a person had been shot near the Short Stop store, located on Avenue I, notes knopnews2.
Initially, authorities were told that a BB gun was used, but as crews moved to the scene, the information was updated and officers learned that it was a real rifle.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a pickup truck with a trailer attached, and the passenger side door had obvious gunshot marks.
According to the preliminary conclusions of the investigation, the owner of the van had stopped in front of the store, and inside the vehicle there was a dog on the back seat. While one of the passengers was sitting near the front door on the right side of the car, the animal allegedly moved from side to side of the vehicle.
In circumstances that the police are still trying to fully clarify, the dog would have accidentally activated the mechanism of a loaded rifle, which already had a cartridge inserted in the barrel, the gun discharged, and the projectile hit a woman nearby, stopped at a traffic light, with her arm resting on the car window
The victim was transported to the hospital for medical care, but the authorities stated that the injuries suffered are not life-threatening.
The case remains under the attention of the Scottsbluff Police Department, which is trying to determine all the exact circumstances of the incident, especially since according to local law it is illegal to carry a loaded rifle in a vehicle.
