The cessation of American support did not deprive Kyiv of confidence. Ukrainians understand that the aggressor country Russia is “bursting at the seams,” and Europe supports them. The Guardian writes about this.
Ukrainians have already internally accepted betrayal by the United States, namely, the open rapprochement of US President Donald Trump with the illegitimate head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin. Kyiv takes it for granted that US military support, which has declined since Trump returned to power, will not return, the article says.
According to the author of the article, people in Ukraine have no illusions about the imminent end of the war, but note that in the “bloody war of attrition”, the Russian Federation is advancing at a “snail’s pace”, despite the transition of the Russian economy to a war footing and a large human resource. This, as well as the successes of the Ukrainian defense industry, only strengthens Ukrainians’ confidence in their ability to continue resistance, the author of the publication notes.
They are now confident that “European governments will not abandon them,” says The Guardian, although this has nothing to do with a belief in the kindness of Europeans or trust in solidarity. Europe will support Kyiv based on a cold understanding of its own interests.
“The United States no longer has the war cards in Ukraine; Trump abandoned them the moment he betrayed Kyiv and the rest of Europe. But together, Ukraine and the rest of Europe still have leverage. And they are beginning to realize it,” the British newspaper summarizes.
