The leadership of the Chamber of Deputies was notified on Tuesday that Andrei Csillag, MP for Bistrita-Năsăud elected on the POT lists and until recently in the United for Romania group, was definitively sentenced to 8 months in prison with suspension. To serve his sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol, the MP will do community service.

The Bucharest Court informed, on Tuesday, the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies that the deputy of the group “United for Romania” Andrei Csillag was sentenced definitively with suspension.

In the document it is written that the sentence of the High Court of Cassation and Justice remained final, by non-appeal on May 12.

Contacted by HotNews, the deputy did not offer a reaction until the time of publication of this article. Instead, he announced today that he is leaving the United for Romania group, Răzvan Chiriță, the leader of the new group from the Chamber of Deputies, told HotNews.

What a punishment he received

Because the punishment is suspended, Csillag does not lose his parliamentary mandate. However, he must comply with a supervision program for 2 years, during which he will follow a social reintegration program.

In addition, he will perform 60 days of community service and is banned from driving for a year.

The deputy's explanations

“On the evening of July 13, I consumed alcohol. The next day, on July 14, after a period of rest that turned out to be insufficient, I was stopped in traffic and tested, the result indicating a value of 0.45 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air,” the parliamentarian wrote on his Facebook page in April.

In the same post, Csillag stated that he had chosen the “right path” and that he was cooperating fully with the authorities.

“The fact that this solution came quickly, in contrast to what we often see, is due to a firm decision: I refused to resort to tricks or strategies designed to delay the process,” added the deputy.
