Today I attended an event, the significance of which our nation has become aware of over the years.

Dear compatriots, today I attended an event, the significance of which our nation understands even more deeply over the years.

Colonel of the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, head of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Andrey Melnyk and his faithful wife and ally Sofia Fedak-Melnyk returned to their native land, in the heart of Ukraine – sacred Kyiv.

They returned home.

They returned to Ukraine, for which they fought, which they carried in their hearts even in a foreign land, for which they prayed and for which they sacrificed their own lives.

This is not just reburial. This is an act of great historical justice. This is the return of memory. The return of our state continuity. The return of those names, without which it is impossible to compose a complete history of the Ukrainian nation.

For centuries, Moscow has sought not only to occupy Ukrainian land – it has wanted to sever our historical roots, scatter our memory around the world, and make sure that Ukrainian heroes remain exiles even after death. Therefore, today’s event has not only symbolic, but also deep national significance.

We must realize a simple truth: the Ukrainian pantheon of national glory cannot be completed while our great sons remain in foreign lands.

Ukraine must bring its heroes home.

We must return the ashes of the great Hetman Ivan Mazepa, the creator of the first Ukrainian Constitution Pylyp Orlyk, the chief ataman Symon Petlyura, Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky, Colonel Yevgeny Konovalets, guide Stepan Bandera and thousands of other Ukrainians who created our statehood and whose graves today are scattered all over the world.

After all, a people who does not honor their heroes has no future. And the people who regain their memory become strong, integral and invincible.

Today Ukraine is returning not only names – Ukraine is returning its state memory.

Ukraine is returning its own.

Ukraine is taking back its history.

Ukraine is returning itself.

Glory to Ukraine!
