The first details of the agreement that the US and Iran are about to sign: The Strait of Hormuz will be opened / What the Americans offer in exchange

The United States and Iran are on the verge of signing an agreement that would extend the truce by 60 days, during which the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, Iran would be able to sell its oil freely and negotiations would take place on limiting Iran's nuclear program, according to disclosures made by a US official to Axios.

According to the information of the American publication, during the period of 60 days, Hormuz will be opened without tolls, and Iran will agree to remove the mines it has placed in the Strait to allow ships to pass freely, notes Reuters.

In return, as part of the proposed deal, the US would lift the blockade on Iranian ports and grant some sanctions relief to allow Iran to sell oil freely.

The draft agreement also includes commitments by Iran never to pursue nuclear weapons and to negotiate the suspension of its uranium enrichment program and the disposal of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

Iran has given the U.S., through mediators, verbal commitments on the extent of concessions it is willing to make on halting enrichment and giving up nuclear material, two sources told Axios.

The US would also agree to negotiate the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian funds within the 60-day period.

What Iranian news agencies say

According to Iran's Fars news agency, the draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Tehran and the US stipulates that the United States and its allies will not attack Iran or its allies.

In return, Tehran pledges not to launch any preemptive military strikes against the Americans or their allies.

Another Iranian news agency, Tasnim, also reported the draft memorandum as saying Washington would lift sanctions on Iranian oil. According to her, Iran has not yet accepted any action on the nuclear file, but a 60-day period will be set for discussions on the nuclear program.

The draft MOU also emphasizes stopping the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, where Israel must stop hostilities.

Trump: The deal was “largely negotiated”

A “largely negotiated” memorandum of understanding on a peace deal with Iran would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump said on Saturday night, according to Reuters.

Trump has said on social media that the deal being negotiated would reopen the strait, the vital sea passage whose closure has upset global energy markets since the US and Israel launched war on Iran in February. He did not specify what else would be included in the agreement.

“The final aspects and details of the agreement are currently being discussed and will be announced shortly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
