Péter Magyar cuts his salary. The Hungarian Prime Minister starts with himself

In an entry published on website X, Magyar said that his salary will be reduced to “less than half of his current salary”.
The reduction in the remuneration of the head of government is to be a symbolic element of the planned changes in the new Hungarian government. The Prime Minister also emphasized that the cuts would also apply to ministers, MPs and mayors.
“The prime minister's remuneration will be reduced to less than half of the current salary. The remuneration of ministers, MPs and mayors will also be significantly reduced. I expect, above all, a human approach, moderation and humility.” — wrote on X.
This is how much the Prime Minister of Hungary earns
For now, no details have been provided regarding the amount of new salaries or the date when the changes will come into force. However, the declaration shows that the Prime Minister intends to start saving from himself.
In 2025, the remuneration of the Prime Minister of Hungary was approximately 5.24 million gross forints per month (approx. PLN 56,000) for serving as the head of government. After the July 2025 increase, the rate was automatically linked to the average salary in the economy and corresponded to 8.1 times the average salary. This means that after the reduction, he will receive a maximum of 2.62 million forints (PLN 28,000).
