First hours of nightmare for the Romanian players at Roland Garros. High hopes for Sunday night though

Elena-Gabriela Ruse abandoned in the first round of the grand slam tournament in Paris, while Emma Răducanu was destroyed in two sets.

The first day of the main draw of the French Tennis Internationals was not lucky for some of the players from Romania or with Romanian origins.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse was already out of the first round after she had to retire in the second set of the match against the Polish Magdalena Fręch.

The Romanian, ranked 77th in the world, lost the first set hard, 7-6, and abandoned with a score of 2-1 to the Pole (ranked 46th in the world) in the second set.

The British player with Romanian origins Emma Răducanu (photo) had an equally sad fate. She was crushed in the first set 0-6 by the Argentinian Solana Serra, after which she managed a better second set, but still lost, 6-7.

Emma Răducanu ranks 39th in the world.

Sorana has an easy match

On Sunday evening, the best-ranked Romanian, Sorana Cîrstea, ranked 20th in the world, who recently beat the ranking leader, Aryna Sabalenka, will play in Rome. Sorana reached the semifinals in Rome, and in Paris she will play against the 17-year-old Frenchwoman Ksenia Efremova, ranked 623 in the world.
