“It's already frightening. If we leave the door open, they enter the house. I no longer talk about tourists coming, because they are afraid. The tourists who used to come now tell me that they no longer risk coming with children to Poiana Brașov for fear of bears. We really don't know what to do. It's already on maximum alert”reported people from the area, according to Brașov Știri.

The hotel employees say that the bear entered the building, at which time they called 112. The authorities allegedly told them that “it's not an emergency and to stop calling them”, but at the Poiana Brașov Police.

They claim that, in the absence of quick intervention, hotel staff were forced to stand guard during the night to protect tourists and colleagues.

“We were on guard that night and 112 was continuously called. The staff gave up at a certain point, disappointed, that all our efforts were in vain, although there was a team in Poiana”, they also said.

Tourism operators warn that the phenomenon is beginning to seriously affect the image of the resort, one of the most important mountain destinations in Romania. Many tourists are already avoiding the area, especially families with children, and people are demanding urgent interventions and concrete measures to prevent tragedies.

Also this month, a bear was caught running on the streets of Brașov in broad daylight, near the Faculty of Forestry.

Nicușor Dan attacked the law on bear hunting at the CCR

Recently, President Nicușor Dan asked the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) to block the law that allows the hunting of almost 1,000 bears in 2026.

The head of state warned that the mass killing of animals, through fixed quotas established by the Parliament, violates European rules and can bring huge sanctions to Romania.

The referral concerns the normative act by which the Parliament approved, for the year 2026, the elimination of 859 bears at the prevention level and 110 bears at the intervention level, figures significantly higher than those established in 2024. The law also provides for the distribution of quotas by counties and hunting funds, as well as the ownership regime for the furs and skulls of the extracted specimens.
