Dunărea Brăila, triumphant in the derby with CSM Slatina, ensured its participation in the European cups

In the last stage of the Flower League, Dunărea Brăila won 34-28 against CSM Slatina and won the direct duel for 5th place at the end of the championship, the last one leading to the European cups.

On Saturday, May 23, in Brăila, Dunărea and CSM Slatina fought in a derby for the 5th place in the League of Flowers and, implicitly, for the qualification in the European cups. Before the match, Oltense had one more point than their opponents, so they really needed a win.

CSM Slatina started the game better and led in the first 10 minutes, but Dunărea Brăila came back quickly and balanced the game. Then, in the final third of the first half, the hosts took control of the match, they played very well in attack and went to the locker room with an advantage of 4 goals: 16-12.

The guests were determined not to give up the fight and, in the 36th minute, after a goal by Andrea Șîrle, they came within one length of their opponents: 18-17. A new very balanced period followed and, in the 43rd minute, the difference was still one goal in favor of Dunăria Brăila: 23-22.

After this moment, the hosts played much better, accelerated and managed to break away. CSM Slatina could no longer face its opponent, and Dunărea Brăila prevailed 34-28, achieving a crucial victory in the economy of the ranking.

Elena Roșu scored 8 goals from as many throws, being the main scorer of the game. Mireya Gonzalez (6 goals), Katarina Jezic (4 goals) and Valeriia Kirdiasheva (4 goals) also stood out from the winning team.

On the other side, Slatina's leaders were Nicoleta Dincă (5 goals), Magda Cazanga (5 goals) and Andreea Șîrle (4 goals).

Therefore, Dunărea Brăila reached a total of 25 points and passed CSM Slatina (24 points), finishing the current edition of the Flower League in 5th place. Thanks to this ranking, the team from the city on the banks of the Danube will play in the EHF European League next season.
