Drivers received letters about penalties for driving on the A6. An error has occurred

The fault concerned equipment installed between the Szczecin Dąbie and Rzęśnica junctions. According to GITD data, at the turn of April and May the system registered almost 2,000. alleged offenses. GITD completed all proceedings and the persons concerned received information about the discontinuation.
“The processing of petty offense cases registered in the period from April 29, 2026 at 12:00 to May 4, 2026 at 9:27 a.m. has been suspended,” said the GITD press release. “No person affected by the incorrect measurement was fined,” it was emphasized.
Truck drivers noticed incorrect readings. “About 20 companies applied”
Professional drivers were the first to notice the irregularities. The president of the West Pomeranian Road Carriers Association (ZSPD), Dariusz Matulewicz, said in an interview with PAP that since mid-May, transport companies started receiving letters from the Road Transport Inspectorate informing about the commencement of proceedings related to offenses on the A6 near Szczecin.

— About 20 companies have registered so far. Some of them had several such cases, one of the entrepreneurs had as many as 10, because he passes there three times a day, said Matulewicz. — We wrote to GITD and the District Office of Measures in Szczecin to withdraw the legalization of the device because, in our opinion, it operated incorrectly – emphasized the president of ZSPD.
The head of the association noted that tachographs in trucks record the date, time, driver's working time and speed. – These are reliable devices, also legalized – said Matulewicz. Drivers also verified satellite navigation readings, proving to employers that they were traveling at approximately 7.3 km per hour. slower than the inspection system showed.
They received tickets even though they drove according to the regulations. It was human error that decided
The source of the problem turned out to be a mistake by an employee of the company responsible for installing the measuring equipment. The contractor admitted the error in a message published on May 20 on the CANARD website.
“During the legalization of one of the two systems (on the Szczecin Dąbie – Rzęśnica section), the length of the section was incorrectly entered into one of them. This resulted in incorrect measurement of the average speed of vehicles moving in one direction,” Sprint wrote in the letter.
For inspection purposes, the company is installing devices for sectional speed measurements in 43 places in the country as part of a contract worth PLN 85 million, financed from the National Reconstruction Plan.
Employees discovered the defect after 4 days during a routine inspection and repaired it immediately. However, Sprint did not notify the inspection, for which it apologized to both ITD and drivers. The company assured that other measurement points on motorways and expressways function without any problems. “The event was isolated and incidental and concerned only the indicated location,” the company emphasized.
The contractor announced the introduction of corrective actions, including additional inspections at the equipment verification stage. Devices mounted on A6 will be re-verified.
There will be a refund for drivers
Matulewicz told PAP that the gates at the Szczecin Dąbie and Rzęśnica junctions were built in March 2026, and their last legalization took place on April 23. The president of the association pointed out one more problem – incorrect indications also concerned leased cars, which generates additional expenses for transport companies.
Look: A revolution in fines for drivers? The minister's answer is ambiguous
— The leasing company charges a fee for providing information to the carrier, ranging from PLN 50 to PLN 150. We have an assurance from ITD that these additional costs will also be reimbursed – concluded Matulewicz.
For comparison, a fine for exceeding the speed limit by 10 km per hour. is PLN 100.
Speed measurements in Poland are managed by CANARD (Centre for Automatic Road Traffic Supervision), which is subordinated to GITD. The network of devices is systematically expanded. The Ministry of Infrastructure stated that by June 2026, the so-called measurement gates will appear in 114 locations on a total length of 670 km of roads. Most new points will be created in the Masovian, Silesian, Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian voivodeships.
