Note by M. Baranovsky “Be healthy, Mikhail Lvovich!” about Mikhail Lvovich Zlotnikov, a participant in the Soviet-Japanese War in the Far East.

“He came to Birobidzhan from Belarus as a resettlement in 1932. He remembers how, after getting off the train, he stopped on a patch of flat land – now this is the station square.

The director of a garment factory under construction took a liking to the serious guy, and he invited Mikhail to head the personnel department, but the office work soon bored the active Zlotnikov, and he went to a construction site, where he first became acquainted with pumps for pumping out water, a pickaxe, an ax and a shovel – simple tools of builders of those years.

The second major construction project of Mikhail Lvovich is the Detal artel. When the first batch of cars arrived in the city, he mastered the profession of a driver and for several years transported timber from the taiga, rubble stone, concrete… This work was also related to construction.

Twenty-three years were given only to the Birobidzhanstroy trust.

I will forever remember the day when, with a camp bag over my shoulders, wearing the shoulder straps of a senior lieutenant, having returned from the war, I happily walked along the familiar streets of Birobidzhan. I rejoiced in the spring, the sun, and life.

Soon he started a family. Birobidzhan residents know Mikhail Lvovich’s wife well. A veteran of medicine, Maria Vladimirovna Karpovskaya devoted many years to the cause of protecting the health of her fellow countrymen.

Behind is a big life, full of overcoming, labor, but still happy, because it is extremely honest and pure. And ahead there are many joys inherent in an elderly person who has prosperous children and grandchildren.”

The next article “Once and Forever” by A. Devichev about the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Isaac Grigorievich Shmukler.

“… His migrant parents came to the village of Babstovo when he was an infant. Here he grew up and became a hairdresser. In his work book there is only one entry: “Hired as a hairdresser.

In the early days of 1941, Isaac Grigorievich was called up for active service. Here he received the news of the attack on our country by Nazi Germany. In October 1941, the eleventh fascist army broke into Crimea. One part of it was sent to storm Sevastopol, the other headed east, towards the Kerch Peninsula. And Kerch was defended by the Kerch naval base and troops of the 51st Separate Army, in which Private Shmukler fought as a signalman.

I.G. Shmukler took part in the battles near Rostov-on-Don, Yelnya, and liberated Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. He ended the war in East Prussia at the walls of Koenigsberg. Throughout the war, Isaac Grigorievich was on the front line… The soldier’s family archive contains the Order of the Red Star, Glory of the second degree, medals “For the Capture of Koenigsberg”, “For Courage”, “For Military Merit”, “For Defense of the Caucasus” and others.

After demobilization, Isaac Grigorievich returned to his native village, where his wife, children, parents were waiting for him…

Twenty-two times, fellow villagers elected Isaac Grigorievich as a deputy of the village Council of People's Deputies. From 1970 to 1974, the communist Shmukler headed the local party organization.”
