King Charles was in Northern Ireland when it was reported that he had died. Radio station announcement

A local radio station in southeast England issued a public apology to King Charles III and listeners on Wednesday after it mistakenly announced the death of the British sovereign, citing a computer glitch, reports AFP.

“The 'Monarch' procedure – which all British radio stations keep ready, while hoping they never have to resort to it – was accidentally triggered on Tuesday afternoon, wrongly announcing the death of Her Majesty the King,” Radio Caroline director Peter Moore wrote on Facebook.

He mentioned “a computer error in the main studio”.

The show on Tuesday afternoon is not available to be listened to again on the website of this radio station in Essex, a county in the southeast of England, notes Agerpres.

Radio Caroline “had the pleasure of broadcasting the Christmas message of Her Majesty the Queen (Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022, nr) and since then the King's, and we hope we can continue to do so for many years to come,” added the station director.

After realizing the error, representatives of the station, which was founded in 1964, issued a public apology live, then on social media, to the king and listeners “for the inconvenience caused”.

King Charles III was visiting Northern Ireland on Tuesday afternoon when Radio Caroline mistakenly announced his death.

The 77-year-old British monarch continues to undergo treatment for cancer, the diagnosis of which he revealed in February 2024.
