Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Carlo Formosa and Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski signed an agreement to allocate an additional €10 million for restoration and repair work in the Ukrainian energy sector. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced this on May 21 on Telegram.
According to the prime minister, Italy had previously allocated €13 million to the Energy Support Fund.
“This is a contribution to the stability of our energy system and the safety of millions of Ukrainians,” he wrote.
Shmygal noted that during the meeting the parties continued to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s energy sector and its further integration into the energy space of the European Union. Separately, they discussed attracting new contributions to the Energy Support Fund, which is one of the tools for strengthening the country’s energy sustainability, as well as opportunities for international businesses to invest in Ukrainian energy.
According to the prime minister, the launch of updated auctions for the construction of new generation in Ukraine should become an important signal for the market and help attract foreign investors to the development of new energy capacities. Ukraine plans to present these and other opportunities at the URC conference in Gdansk (Poland) in June.
