According to an INSCOP Research poll conducted in May 2026, the idea of early elections has significant support, with the majority of the population leaning towards the solution of government continuity.
The survey highlights clear differences between the population segments. The formation of a new government is supported in a greater proportion by PSD, PNL and USR voters, by people over 60 years old, by those with higher education and by urban residents.
In contrast, early elections are mostly preferred by AUR voters, men, 45-59 year olds and private sector employees.
Regarding the direction of the future Executive, 65.6% of the respondents believe that it should continue the pro-European and pro-Western orientation, while 26.2% are of the opposite opinion, and 8.2% did not answer.
“At this moment, there is no critical majority in favor of early elections, only 41% believe that the best solution is the organization of early elections. The vast majority of PNL, PSD and USR voters oppose early elections, while AUR voters support this solution”. said Remus Ștefureac, director of INSCOP Research.
He also emphasized that support for the continuation of the pro-European direction is in the majority among the electorate of the main governing parties, while opposition to this direction is higher among AUR voters.
The data were collected between May 11-14, 2026, by the CATI method (telephone interviews), on a sample of 1100 people, representative of the non-institutionalized adult population of Romania. The margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level.
