Cuba is Donald Trump's new target. The media warns about the risk

The American administration has intensified pressure on Cuba, relying primarily on economic sanctions and signals about possible special operations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday blamed the government in Havana for the country's energy and humanitarian crisis, pointing to corruption and mismanagement, and Trump repeatedly emphasized the economic and institutional breakdown of the state.
CNN also drew attention to the allegations of the American justice system against former Cuban leader Raul Castro, which are part of a broader strategy to put pressure on the local authorities.
It didn't work with Iran, will it work with Cuba?
The portal also emphasized the political dimension of the Trump administration's actions. The possible overthrow of the regime in Havana would be presented as a historic success, which previous US presidents failed to achieve. CNN described these actions as part of a broader “Donroe doctrine”, which assumes strengthening US dominance in the Western Hemisphere and limiting the influence of Russia and China in the region.
According to the website, one of the key problems of the Trump administration is lack of clear successes in foreign policy, that could strengthen its narrative about rebuilding America's position in the world.
As CNN noted, the president has still not managed to end the war in Iran, and efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and implement the next stages of the Gaza ceasefire plan remain largely ineffective. This weakens the image of effective U.S. foreign policy and increases pressure on the administration to achieve quick, visible victory on another front.
Intervention in Cuba is a big risk for the US
According to the portal, a possible military operation would involve a greater risk of resistance and American losses than a quick intervention similar to the one in Venezuela, which took place in January this year. Despite outdated military equipment, the Cuban armed forces could cause real losses to the US army. Additionally, there is the possibility of mobilizing Cuban society within the framework of the island's defense doctrine, which requires the entire population to respond in the event of an invasion by a foreign state.
CNN also drew attention to possible political consequences within the United States itself. A new conflict in the region could weaken the position of Republicans before the midterm elections and intensify criticism from Democrats, who point to the growing social and economic costs of such a policy. The website noted that the attack on the island is most supported by the Cuban community in the US.
