Consultations with top doctors from Vienna at the Dr. Holhoș Hospital in Alba Iulia, on June 5 and 6

The Dr. Holhoș Hospital in Alba Iulia, one of the largest private hospital units in Transylvania, brings to Romania, in collaboration with the Austrian clinic ATOMOS Währing, three renowned surgeons from Vienna, who will offer consultations to Romanian patients on June 5 and 6. Thus, Romanian patients have the chance to have access to consultation services that would normally have required expensive trips abroad.
Constant collaboration project with top foreign specialists
This initiative of the Dr. Holhoș Hospital will consist of periodically inviting specialist doctors from Vienna to Romania, thus offering Romanian patients international medical services.
The first major objective is aimed at oncology, a field in which there is a high demand for performance medical services, but also other fields that are equally in demand. Thanks to this collaborative initiative, patients from Transylvania and the rest of the country will have access to top medical expertise.
Guests: three top specialists in oral-maxillofacial surgery, rhinology and neurosurgery
The three invited doctors run centers of excellence within the renowned ATOMOS Währing clinic or work in units such as AKH, the largest hospital in Vienna, and will offer consultations in mixed teams, alongside Romanian specialist doctors.
Thus, during June 5-6, all patients interested in medical consultations in neurosurgery, as well as in the field of sinus surgery and oro-maxillo-facial surgery, are expected at the consultations offered by world-class specialists, considered among the best in their specializations.
Interested patients can make an appointment by phone at 0358 880 006.
“Through this initiative, we want to offer patients in Romania medical services at European standards, inviting here some of the best specialists in the world to give consultations for the benefit of patients in the country, together with Romanian colleagues”, says Dr. Teodor Holhoș, the hospital's founder. “Our three guests are doctors at the top of their field, generally specialized in the treatment (including surgery) of particularly complex cases, from spinal tumors to reconstructive surgery. Therefore, we recommend scheduling consultations especially for patients with complex pathologies in the maxillo-facial sphere, rhinology or neurology/neurosurgery, for which they are looking for alternative solutions to the offer in the country or patients who need a second opinion.”
Oral-maxillo-facial surgery consultations
Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. HC Emeka Nkenke is Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH) and coordinates a dedicated Center of Excellence within the ATOMOS Währing Clinic. He also runs a private practice, having the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in medicine.
Prof. Nkenke performs multiple surgical interventions in the field of BMF, being specialized in particularly complex interventions, particularly in cancer surgery using the most modern techniques. At the Dr. Holhoș Hospital, Prof. Nkenke will offer consultations with assistant. university Dr. Julian Bonea, specialist in cranio-maxillo-facial surgery.
Prof. Dr. Nkenke can provide consultations for:
Pediatric and congenital surgery: Treatment of cleft lip and palate (cleft lip), along with correction of craniofacial malformations.
Reconstruction and functional aesthetics: Orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis (an innovative method that replaces the classic bone graft).
Complex reconstructive surgery: Rehabilitation of the head, neck and salivary gland area following severe trauma or invasive surgery.
Oncological surgery: Biopsies or removal of cancerous formations by maximum safety techniques, together with reconstruction of the affected areas. Making grafts and prostheses at the mandibular or orbital level.
Dr. Nkenke is a pioneer in the use of digital technology in medicine, planning operations through virtual simulations. He also developed new mandibular flap reconstruction techniques for oncology patients, offering a chance at a normal life to those with extensive facial and maxillary defects.
His academic contributions are recognized at the highest level, his lordship holding the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery.
In order to benefit from an effective consultation with Prof. Emeka Nkenke, patients are requested to submit recent imaging investigations. They are required:
- An MRI exam, OR
- A computed tomography (CT) scan, OR
- At least one 3D panoramic radiograph.
Rhinology and sinus surgery consultations
Dr. Erich Martin Vyskocil, Privat Dozent (title roughly equivalent to the qualification in the Romanian academic system, certifying the capacity of the holder to teach and do research at university level) is a recognized authority in the field of ENT, with overspecializations in the field of rhinology.
Dr. Vyskocil will offer specialist consultations at Dr. Holhoș's clinic in team with Dr. Lavinia Mera, ENT specialist, helping patients suffering from severe pathologies of the paranasal sinuses and the base of the skull, complex or recurrent diseases of the nose and sinuses.
Dr. Vyskocil studied medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, where he completed his specialty training and obtained his qualification in otolaryngology (ENT). He is currently active in the private medical sector, operating in the ATOMOS Währing Clinic.
His surgical experience covers interventions with a high degree of difficulty. Dr. Vyskocil specializes in ENT oncology surgery, primary and revision endoscopic sinus surgery, and complex frontal sinus surgery. His portfolio also includes orbital decompression, tear duct surgery, surgical management of sinonasal tumors and advanced endoscopic skull base interventions. His professional recognition is also strengthened by his teaching activity; Dr. Vyskocil is the founder and coordinator of an advanced endoscopic sinus surgery course in Vienna for ENT doctors who want to improve their practical techniques.
In order to establish a correct diagnosis, patients who wish to be examined by Dr. Vyskocil must come to the consultation with a computed tomography (CT) scan of the sinuses. A dental model CT is also accepted, provided that the resolution and height settings are adjusted so that the images fully include the frontal sinuses.
Neurosurgery consultations
Dr. Camillo Sherif, Privat Dozent, a specialist of European reputation in neurosurgery, will in turn offer consultations for the benefit of Romanian patients, at Dr. Holhoș Hospital. Dr. Sherif's career combines private clinical practice, university medicine – in the past he headed the Department of Neurosurgery of the prestigious University Hospital St. Pölten in Austria – and research activity in the field of cerebrovascular diseases.
Dr. Sherif performs both high-precision surgical and non-surgical interventions essential to improving the quality of life of patients. These include, for example, diagnostic consultations, CT or radiology imaging-guided infiltrations, advanced drug therapies for pain control, and acute pain management.
Dr. Sherif's main specialization is in the surgery of complex cases: brain and spinal tumors, cerebrovascular pathologies such as aneurysms, as well as in skull base surgery. His area of expertise also includes spinal decompression, herniated disc surgery, spinal fusion, kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty, as well as peripheral nerve surgery, such as carpal tunnel surgery.
Dr. Camillo Sherif will provide consultations at the Dr. Holhoș Hospital alongside one of the best-known neurosurgeons in the area, Dr. Bogdan Suciu, primary neurosurgeon.
For evaluation, patients must submit a medical record with a spine MRI exam that clearly includes the affected area. In cases where there are suspicions of tumors or malignancies at the cervical, thoracic or lumbar level, MRI and CT investigations with contrast are necessary. Also, for patients suffering from brain conditions, it is absolutely mandatory that the imaging investigations presented in the meeting are not older than 30 days.
