Sample subjects for the 2026 National Assessment at grade IV. What exercises do the students have in Romanian Language and Mathematics
The Ministry of Education has published the subject models for the 2026 National Assessment in the 4th grade. On May 19 and 20, the students will take tests in Romanian Language and Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Comprehension exercises, grammar, math calculations, fractions, Science problems and requirements appear in the published models.
- The 2026 National Assessment for the 4th grade begins on Tuesday, May 19, with the Language and Communication test, according to the official calendar of the Ministry of Education. The students will take, on Wednesday, May 20, the exam in Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
- The subject models for the 2026 4th grade National Assessment were published on the Ministry of Education platform about a month before the May tests start.
Subject models in Romanian for the IVth grade National Assessment
In the Language and Communication test – Romanian Language, the subject model starts from a supporting text entitled “Darul lui Mihai”, adapted from a story by Zenobia Niculita.
Starting from the text, children have to answer comprehension questions and solve vocabulary and writing exercises. Some requirements are simple, to identify characters or events, and others follow the way students formulate their ideas.
For example, students have to identify the main character, order the events in the text and match the lines with the correct characters.
At the end of the test, the students have to write a text of 6-8 statements starting from the idea “It is better to give than to receive”.
Model subjects in Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the National Assessment 4th grade
The Maths and Science subject model is themed around the 'history of money' and combines maths exercises with science questions.
Students have to solve exercises with natural numbers, ordering, rounding and mathematical calculations, but also problems that use examples from everyday life, such as banknotes, coins or bank cards.
Exercises with fractions, units of measure and geometry also appear in the test. One of the requirements requires students to calculate the perimeter of a bank card and another to identify the correct representation of a fraction.
The Natural Sciences section includes questions about plants, materials and the conditions under which mold occurs.
2026 National Assessment Calendar for the 4th grade
According to the official calendar:
- May 19, 2026 – Language and communication;
- May 20, 2026 – Mathematics and Natural Sciences;
- May 21, 2026 – Mother tongue.
Each test lasts 60 minutes.
How results are communicated
The results of the 2026 National Assessment for the 4th grade are not publicly displayed and are not automatically transferred to the catalog. These are included in the student's educational portfolio and can be turned into qualifications only at the request of parents.
