US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that Iran should act quickly if it wants to avoid a serious escalation of the situation.
“Time is running out for Iran, and they'd better act fast, or there won't be anything left of them.” conveyed the American leader, in his usual tone.
The threat comes as talks between the United States and Iran remain deadlocked, particularly over the nuclear program, where differences between the two sides remain major.
According to Iranian media, Washington would not have made “any concrete concession” in response to Tehran's proposals. The Fars news agency claims that the US has come up with a set of five demands, including the drastic curtailment of Iran's nuclear program and the transfer to the US of its entire stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
At the same time, Iranian sources say the Americans have also rejected the idea of unlocking part of Iran's frozen assets or paying compensation for losses suffered over time.
