A 73-year-old man from Târgu Jiu was saved at the last moment from the waters of the Jiu, on Sunday afternoon, after a timed intervention by the firefighters.

The incident occurred in the area of the bridge to Insuliță, near the Central Park, where the victim fell into the river and was unable to get to the shore alone, according to the local publication Jienii.
A passerby noticed the scene and immediately called 112, alerting the authorities.
Crews from the Târgu Jiu Fire Department and the County Ambulance Service quickly arrived at the scene, and managed to recover the man from the water.
The intervention was a difficult one, considering the strong currents of the Jiu and the vulnerable position in which the victim was. The rescuers acted in a coordinated manner, managing to bring him safely to shore.
