Pope Leo XIV has established a special commission for AI

The Vatican commission is being established “due to the development of the phenomenon of artificial intelligence in recent decades and the recent acceleration in its widespread use, its potential consequences for the human being and for all of humanity, as well as the Church's concern for the dignity of every human being, especially in relation to his or her integral development,” Cardinal Czerny noted in the document.
He informed that the commission will be composed of representatives of the Dicasteries for Integral Human Development, the Doctrine of Faith, Culture and Education and Communication, as well as the Pontifical Academy of Life, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
The goal was to facilitate cooperation and exchange of views on activities and projects related to artificial intelligence, including the principles of its use within the Holy See.
Pope Leo XIV warned against AI
Pope Leo XIV regularly speaks on artificial intelligence. In January this year, in a message for the World Day of Social Communications warned against “naive and uncritical reliance on artificial intelligence as an all-knowing friend”. He emphasized that AI tools can fabricate parallel reality and influence public debate.
“We are not a species composed of predetermined biochemical algorithms. Each of us has an irreplaceable and unique vocation that emerges from life and manifests itself in communication with others. Digital technology, if we neglect this care, could radically change some of the fundamental pillars of human civilization that we sometimes take for granted.” – wrote the pope.
