The effects of the Ukrainian attack. “Oil rain” fell on a Russian city

Similar rainfall occurred earlier in Tuapse after a series of attacks on a local refinery and in Perm, where a linear production and dispatch facility of Transneft was damaged. Ecologists and chemists warned that smog and “oil rain” contained some of the most harmful substances – polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), including benzene, classified as a first-class carcinogen.

Drone attack on a Russian refinery

Drones attacked Rosneft's refinery in Ryazan on the night of May 14-15. It is one of the largest enterprises of this type in Russia, with a processing capacity of 17 million tons per year. The plant produces all types of automotive gasoline, diesel oil, aviation kerosene, mazut, liquefied gases, bitumen and raw materials for the petrochemical industry.

After the impact, thick black smoke rose above the plant and began to obscure the sky over the city. Residents complained about a burning smell. In the Oktyabrsk district of Ryazan, all schools and kindergartens were closed “for security reasons,” said the region's governor, Pavel Malkov. Mass events in the city were also canceled. Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being) made no comment.

– So, already in the third Russian city – in Ryazan – oil rain fell. The war is showing a new face more and more clearly – the face of an ecological catastrophe. This is a postponed national catastrophe, commented political scientist Abbas Giallamov.
