Asked on Friday, May 15, in an interview for HotNews, what he thinks about the fact that the deputy prime minister asked ADR and STS to say if they are interested in purchasing some services offered by the company, Ilie Bolojan answered:
“I do not consider that Mrs. Gheorghiu did anything illegal or immoral by meeting with an important company and communicating aspects that could be discussed for a possible collaboration, without putting pressure of any kind and communicating publicly.”
The interim prime minister explained that, in his opinion, the mere fact that a dignitary is talking to a major company does not constitute misconduct, as long as there is no undue pressure or interference.
“It seems normal to me to see what the big companies are,” said Ilie Bolojan, pointing out that the Schwarz group is “about the largest European group both in terms of trade and in the European cloud – IT area”.
The interim prime minister added that when such companies are interested in investing in Romania, “I don't think it's abnormal to see if it's feasible.”
Nicușor Dan's reaction to the scandal of emails sent by Oana Gheorghiu
Questioned by the press on Friday, May 15, on this subject, President Nicușor Dan avoided commenting on the situation of Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, after the accusations launched in the public space regarding alleged interventions in favor of the German Schwarz group, the owner of the Kaufland chain.
Asked if the deputy prime minister should resign, the head of state said he did not want to make “legal appointments” and insisted on the need for balance in assessing the allegations.
“I am not the competent body to make legal classifications and, above all, I do not want to refer to a particular case. What I want to say with all my might is that we have to look at the great big corruption. We have to look at the billions of euros we are losing from the great evasion. So we always have to have a balance between the accusations we make“, said the president.
To the journalists' insistence, Nicușor Dan answered briefly: “You have my answer. It's a legal framework I don't want to rule on.”
