Police from the Krasnoyarsk Territory detained a man at the railway station in St. Petersburg suspected of intermediary in the theft of money from a 79-year-old resident of Zheleznogorsk.
It was established that for several days the pensioner received calls from unknown persons who introduced themselves as lawyers and put psychological pressure on her, convincing her that her bank accounts had been hacked. All funds were allegedly transferred to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but they were intercepted, and now they urgently need to be “declared.”
“The woman, following the instructions of the scammers, collected all her savings and went to transfer them for “declaration” to Krasnoyarsk. At the Lokomotiv stop, a courier was waiting for her, who said the code word and took a package with 1,195,000 rubles in cash. As the previously convicted 45-year-old detainee said, he had been working as a courier since September, first collecting money in St. Petersburg, and then began to expand his geography. He always acted according to the same scheme – he took cash from citizens, kept the agreed part for himself, and transferred the rest to different accounts,” said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

A criminal case was opened against the detainee under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud on a large scale” and taken into custody. Law enforcement officers are establishing his involvement in similar crimes in different regions of Russia.
