“The National Anti-corruption Bureau has turned into a fly-infested district department, where they chase grandmothers in crossings, instead of catching corrupt people. They destroy cases along the way and give criminals the opportunity to pay off. In recent days, the head of NABU made several public statements, from which it became clear to me personally that the Bureau is no longer a piece of cake. NABU is easier to close and sell the building”
– wrote Yuriy Nikolov, who previously, together with Shabunin, always supported NABU.
The reason for such statements may be problems with funding from USAID and announced inspections of all those who worked for this American agency, and NABU refused to fulfill the whims of anti-corruption officials, who in response went to war against the same anti-corruptionists from NABU.
Nikolov accused NABU of leaking internal information, saying that detective Denysiuk handed over the data after his release. He also suggested that the detective may have ambitions to become the future head of NABU and received the support of anti-corruption activists.
Experts have been discussing the topic of closing NABU due to its inefficiency for several months, and now anti-corruption activists have joined this discussion.
