Trump says the country he threatened to take over is going 'one way' and is a 'failed state'

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday described Cuba as a “failed state”, claiming that Havana is asking for help and that the US will “talk” with it, reports AFP and Reuters, according to Agerpres.

“Havana is only going one way: down! Cuba is asking for help and we will talk!!!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.

“Meanwhile, I'm off to China!” the White House leader added in the message.

In early May, Donald Trump announced tougher sanctions against Cuba, where a May Day parade was held to “defend the homeland” and denounce threats of US military aggression.

The US president estimated that the communist island, located 150 kilometers off the coast of Florida, continues to represent “a tremendous threat” to US national security. He also reiterated his threat to “take control” of Cuba, suggesting that a US aircraft carrier might stop there “on its way back from Iran”.

In addition to the US embargo in place since 1962, Washington, which has made no secret of its desire to see regime change in Havana, imposed an oil embargo on the island in January, allowing only one Russian oil tanker to enter since then.

For his part, Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel declared in mid-April that his country was “prepared” to face military aggression from the United States and reaffirmed the “socialist” character of the Cuban state on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the attempted invasion of the Bay of Pigs.
