Spectacular scenes in Vâlcea: a local went after the bear with a shovel. The gendarmerie sounds the alarm
A bear arrived near some houses in Jiblea Veche, Vâlcea county, and the locals decided to chase it away on their own. The incident took place on May 9.

In the images published on social networks, one of the men can be seen running away from the animal holding what witnesses say was a shovel, although in the images it looks more like a pickaxe, Se Intâmplă în Vâlcea writes.
On Tuesday, the Vâlcea Gendarmerie sent a clear warning on Facebook regarding the danger of such gestures:
“A call to 112 reported the presence of a bear near a home. Fortunately, this time no one was injured. However, the captured images show how quickly such a situation can turn into an extremely dangerous one.
Frightened by the appearance of the animal, people tried to chase it away themselves, approaching a few meters from the bear and trying to hit it. We remind you that, in the event of a bear encounter:
- do not approach the animal;
- don't try to hit him;
- take shelter in a safe place;
- and immediately call the single emergency number 112.
In such a situation, courage does not mean approaching the bear. Courage means making the right decision.” specifies the Vâlcea Gendarmerie.
Also last week, a bear cub was rescued after getting stuck in a tree. The gendarmes permanently secured the area to protect the citizens, given that there was a risk of the bear appearing nearby.
