Greenhouse gas emissions are rising despite billions of investments. Poland at the forefront

On Wednesday, Eurostat released information on changes in greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union economies. It turns out that instead of decreasing, they increased. Specifically by 0.4 percent in the fourth quarter of last year compared to the same period of the previous year. Where is Poland in this system?
At the very end. Greenhouse gas emissions in Poland increased by 2.4%. year to year. Only five countries recorded higher growth: Luxembourg, Portugal, Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.
A year earlier, in the corresponding quarter, our greenhouse gas emissions dropped by 2.2 percent, so we are basically back to the starting point from two years ago. But we are coming back to it despite the installation of 3.6 GW of solar capacity (+17%) and 255 MW of wind capacity (+2.5%) and the liquidation of 1.2 GW of lignite power plant capacity (-14%) and 740 MW of hard coal power plant capacity (-3.3%).
The increase in emissions is, of course, due to the winter, more frosty than in previous years, which forced greater use of heating plants. And gas was too expensive for heating.
Although the end of last year meant higher emissions in Poland, on a four-year scale We're already talking about them a reduction of 13.1%. Only six countries in the EU made larger reductions during this time: Estonia (-26.9%), Bulgaria (-22.1%), Czech Republic (-19.6%), Slovakia (-18.4%), Finland (-18.3%) and Germany (-14.6%).
