One of the Spaniards evacuated from Hondius is infected with hantavirus

The ministry noted that the patient did not show any symptoms and was in good condition; additional tests are being carried out. The results of the remaining 13 people, who are also in quarantine, were negative.

As Deputy Health Minister Javier Padilla said in an interview for public radio, the patient whose PCR test showed the presence of the virus will be transferred to a high-security isolation ward. The quarantine period for Spanish passengers of the cruise ship, which was to last 42 days from May 6, may also change.

Spanish citizens were the first to leave the MV Hondius ship, which arrived in Tenerife on Sunday morning. Subsequently, several repatriation flights for citizens of other countries took place, and part of the crew departed on Monday evening towards the Netherlands.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on May 3 the death of three people on the MV Hondius cruise ship, which set off from southern Argentina on an Atlantic cruise in early April. So far, the organization has confirmed eight cases of infection with hantavirus, a dangerous virus that is transmitted mainly by rodents.

On Monday, it was reported that a French woman and an American woman who were evacuated from the ship also tested positive for hantavirus.
