The American National Intelligence Service is investigating the activities of more than 120 biological laboratories that are located outside the United States and are funded from the budget. Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard told the tabloid The New York Post.
The test is being carried out on orders from President Donald Trump to stop “potentially dangerous experiments with viruses.” Gabbard says her team intends to “identify where these laboratories are, what pathogens they contain, and what research is being conducted there.”
According to the head of intelligence, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown “the catastrophic global consequences of research into dangerous pathogens in biological laboratories.”
National Intelligence officials claim that these laboratories are located in more than 30 countries. Some of them were previously funded through a US Department of Defense program created after the end of the Cold War to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, the article says.
More than 40 laboratories that came under inspection are located on the territory of Ukraine. ODNI officials say they could be “at risk” due to a full-scale invasion.
