VIDEO. The moment Emmanuel Macron storms nervously on stage: “Excuse me, everyone… Hey, hey! If you want to talk about something else, I invite you to leave the room”

On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron briefly interrupted an intervention, in a conference dedicated to culture, and a Ghanaian fashion designer, Yayra Agbofnah, an environmental activist, during the Africa Forward Summit, at the University of Nairobi, in Kenya, calling to order several noisy and inattentive people in the audience and asking for silence in the room, reports the AFP news agency, quoted by News.ro.
“Aren't you already waiting for your turn?”, expressed the surprise of the host of the discussion, when the French head of state went on stage to ask for the microphone.
Visibly disturbed by the constant noise in the auditorium at this conference, within the Africa Forward Summit, organized by France and Kenya in order to strengthen the economic partnerships between the African continent and the Hexagon, Emmanuel Macron, who was seated in the first row, quickly got up and intervened on the stage, taking the participants by surprise.
“It's totally disrespectful”
“I'll take care of things,” he told her, then took the microphone.
“Excuse me, everybody… Hey, hey!”, he thundered in front of the audience, circumspect at first.
“I'm sorry, but it's impossible to talk about culture, to have such highly inspired people who come here and give a speech in such an uproar. It's a total lack of respect,” thundered the French president, addressing the audience.
“I suggest,” he continued, “if you want to have bilateral meetings or talk about something else, use the meeting rooms or leave. If you want to stay here, we listen to people and play the same game. Agreed? Thank you.”
Macron's set-up was met with applause from the public.
Much criticized on the African continent since his first mandate, Emmanuel Macron and France are organizing this summit for the first time in an English-speaking country, in an attempt to make the idea of the French “pré carré” disappear, an expression that designates French-speaking Africa.
“This era is over,” the French head of state reaffirmed on Sunday in Nairobi.
“Starting from 2017”, the date of his installation in power, “this era is over”, he emphasized, assuring that he does not want to “hide”, by choosing Kenya, the difficulties encountered in other countries.
“Silence generally silences noise”
Later, during the conference, Emmanuel Macron refused to speak on stage until there was silence.
“Silence generally silences noise,” he said at first with a smile, then hardened his tone.
“But in reality, if there are so many people to discuss, which I deeply respect, I don't see why they come to discuss in the middle of our meeting,” he said.
This unexpected intervention risks making noise on the African continent.
The summit ends on Tuesday.
