Cafes and restaurants are losing visitors due to Krasnoyarsk residents switching to fast food

April 1 10:57

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory at the beginning of 2026, the demand for many goods and services decreased. This is stated in the report of the Bank of Russia “Regional Economy: Statement Commentaries”.

Cafes and restaurants are losing guests – there are 15-20% fewer of them compared to last year. Today, residents of the region are increasingly choosing fast food or ready-made food from stores. In addition, in January, abnormal frosts forced Krasnoyarsk residents to leave their homes less often, which led to an increase in the popularity of delivery instead of going to establishments.

Against this backdrop, several food outlets have closed, including those that opened just a few months ago. For example, in February in Krasnoyarsk a popular bar was put up for sale. The former owner of the establishment noted that the key reasons for the closure were not only an increase in the VAT rate, but also a serious decline in demand.

There is also a noticeable decline in online trading today. A representative of the regional warehouse of a large marketplace reported a decrease in the number of orders since the beginning of the year by 3–6%. The most noticeable decline affected large purchases of durable goods – large equipment and furniture.

The digital technology segment looks in contrast to this background. Stores are recording a rush of demand for electronics from well-known brands. The high interest is explained by the strengthening of the ruble, which led to a slight decrease in the cost of goods, as well as the population's expectations of further price increases.

Krasnoyarsk residents also do not skimp on travel. Today, travel agency employees note an increase in demand for vacations both abroad and within the country. Since the beginning of the year, sales of travel packages to Southeast Asian countries have increased, as have early hotel bookings for the summer period. Passenger traffic at the airport increased by 6%, on the railway – by 1.2%.

“We see that people are taking a more rational approach to spending: they are moving away from expensive classic restaurants towards fast food and ready-made food, and giving up impulse purchases of jewelry and large household appliances if they do not see an urgent need for it. At the same time, the strengthening of the ruble has temporarily revived demand for electronics, and the desire for new experiences supports the tourism industry. Business, in turn, is forced to adapt: close unprofitable outlets, optimize costs and look for new work formats,” Sergei Zhuravlev, manager of the Krasnoyarsk Branch of the Bank of Russia, commented on the situation.
