Ilie Bolojan, response to Lia Olguța Vasilescu: “When I call my colleagues to give them advice on what to do, they know what to do” / The ironic reaction of the PSD mayor

The liberal prime minister dismissed by the PSD-AUR motion of censure, Ilie Bolojan, suggested that the social democrat Lia Olguța Vasilescu “called PNL leaders to explain to them what they have to do” in the current political crisis. In response, the PSD mayor of Craiova said that she was the one called by “a PNL leader”, without naming him.

The leader of the PNL was asked, on Monday evening, on Digi24, what he replied to Lia Olguța Vasilescu, who accused a violation of the PNL statute by the way the liberals decided to go into opposition after the Bolojan Government was dismissed by the PSD-AUR motion.

“The National Liberal Party made its decisions in the statutory forums, and when Mrs. Olguța Vasilescu calls my colleagues to give them advice on what to do, they know what to do: something else than what she tells them,” answered Ilie Bolojan.

Asked which liberals were called by the social democrat, Bolojan avoided giving a concrete answer, adding: “You have to ask her if she called PNL leaders to explain to them what they have to do.”

The ironic reaction of Lia Olguța Vasilescu

The social democrat reacted after the PNL leader's statements. Lia Olguța Vasilescu claims that she was the one called and posted a photo of a call, but the name of the caller is not visible.

“And again it's like Radio Yerevan. I didn't call a PNL leader. I was called (…). Have you also adopted any decision regarding the phone calls between PSD and PNL members?”, she wrote on Facebook on Monday evening.

Vasilescu had accused the PNL of violating its own statute

The PSD mayor of Craiova claimed that, from his party's point of view, the PNL's decision to go into opposition is “non-statutory”.

“The decision that was taken, from our point of view, is non-statutory, because the other structures of the National Liberal Party should have been consulted for the withdrawal to the Opposition. You saw what consultation we did, in regional stages, a national consultation, in which all the leaders of the party at all levels, all the mayors of Romania, all the presidents of the county councils participated”, said Lia Olguța Vasilescu, quoted by the Observer.

At the same time, on May 6, she had stated that PSD still wants “a European majority” in the Parliament and she did not have “a problem with the National Liberal Party” as a whole, but with Ilie Bolojan, “with whom it was actually not possible to discuss during this period”.
