Germany has rejected the candidacy of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as the European Union's negotiator with Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. Reuters reported this on May 10, citing sources.
On May 9, Putin said that he was ready to see as a negotiator any European leader who “didn’t say some nasty things” to the Russian Federation. He named Schroeder as a desirable candidate.
One German official told Reuters that the proposal was not credible because Russia had not changed any of its terms.
He also added that the first test for Moscow will be its readiness to extend the three-day truce.
The official said Putin had made a series of false proposals aimed at splitting the Western alliance.
