The statements were made in an interview for the show “Full Measure”, moderated by journalist Sharyl Attkisson and broadcast on Sunday, reports Aljazeera.
Trump claimed that Iran is “defeated militarily”although he warned that the situation is not completely over.
“They are defeated militarily, maybe they don't realize it, but I think they know it”the American leader said, adding: “This does not mean that they have said their last word.”
The US president suggested that the US military could continue operations for another two weeks to strike the remaining targets.
“We had certain targets in mind and we probably hit 70% of them, but there are others that we could still hit and this would just be the final touch.” said Donald Trump.
The statements come as Iran announced on Sunday that it had sent a response to the latest American proposal aimed at ending the conflict that began on February 28, following military actions launched by Israel and the United States.
In the same interview, Trump resumed his criticism of NATO, which he again compared to a “paper tiger”, reproaching the Allies for not supporting the United States sufficiently in the current conflict.
