A spoon on a bucket of water – and a carrot fly writhes in agony: root vegetables the size of an elbow are thick, smooth and sweeter than honey

Red and black pepper perfectly repel carrot flies with their smell. And if during treatment you get directly into the pests, you will cause them to suffer. The author of the Zen channel “Our Cozy Home” shared the recipe and a couple of life hacks for caring for plants.

Infusion recipe

An infusion of spices is a great way to repel carrot flies. Take 1 tablespoon of red or black pepper and stir it in a bucket of plain warm water. Carry out the first thinning of the beds and water the plantings with the solution. First water the carrots with plain water, otherwise there is a risk of burning the roots.

Repeat the procedure from time to time to consolidate the result.

By the way, red pepper can also be used in dry form. Sprinkle the beds with it and repeat the procedure a couple more times with an interval of 5 days. The carrot fly will definitely not touch your plantings.

Features and nuances

Watering also affects the size and integrity of root crops. Don't overwater the carrots, but don't let the soil dry out either. The soil should be moderately moist, especially when the roots begin to thicken. Use warm water for watering.

Mercilessly fight weeds that take away nutrients and moisture from root crops.

If you use fertilizers, do not apply too much nitrogen – it causes the roots to become deformed and branched. It is better to treat carrots with potassium-phosphorus supplements more often: then they will become juicy and sweet.

Last but not least is thinning. Carrots need personal space: then each root crop will grow even, large and uniform.
