Rostelecom trained Krasnoyarsk residents to search for information about veterans of the Great Patriotic War

In honor of Victory Day, Rostelecom employees held a training event for visitors to the State Universal Scientific Library of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

They told how to find information about the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War on the Internet. The lesson was organized as part of the ABC of the Internet social project, which the company is implementing jointly with the Social Fund of Russia.

The meeting participants figured out where to start searching for information about relatives-veterans, and also found out where data on awards, injuries and the history of the military journey was published on the Internet. Rostelecom specialists presented useful Internet resources and algorithms for working with them, and also gave recommendations on preparing requests to government departments. They explained in detail how to work with the sites “Feat of the People”, “Memory of the People” and the United Database “Memorial”.

In order to preserve the information found for future generations, they gave step-by-step instructions on how to enter it into various databases. For example, to the website of the “Memory Road” Museum complex, the portal of the National Historical Depository “Faces of Victory” and the “Immortal Regiment” website.

“The event brought together dozens of people, each of them already trying to search on their own. We provided structured information that will be very useful to them. I myself am actively searching through the Internet. In particular, on the website “Memory of the People” I found information about my grandmother’s brother, who served in the Far East, and about my great-grandfather, who was drafted in 1941. He died near Moscow in 1942 after being seriously wounded and was buried in the fraternal columbarium at the Donskoye Cemetery in Moscow. All this information deeply touched me and my family. I want others to find their heroes too,” said Andrey Kuznetsov, head of the station department of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom, volunteer of the ABC of the Internet project.

“To this day, many families continue to restore information about veterans. The “ABC of the Internet” project provides a special course “Searching for participants in the Great Patriotic War on the Internet.” Everyone can get acquainted with it. This is our way to help people and express respect for the Feat of our ancestors,” said Alexey Usatov, director of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom.
