Russia has been attacking Ukraine in a full-scale war for over four years. Despite various attempts to end the conflict, people are still dying and there is a lack of good will on the part of the aggressor. However, there will be a ceasefire for the time being.
“I'm happy to announce that in the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, a three-day ceasefire was announced (May 9, 10 and 11)” Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media platform.
The US president pointed out that Victory Day is celebrated in Russia, but so is Ukraine, as this country also played an important role in World War II.

“The ceasefire will include a cessation of all hostilities and an exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country. – Donald Trump specified.
He emphasized that this request was submitted directly by him and that he greatly appreciated the consent of President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, bloody and fierce war. Talks are ongoing to end this serious conflict, the largest since World War II, and every day we are getting closer to a solution” wrote the US president.
The war in Ukraine is taking a deadly toll
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been going on for 1,534 days, although the armed conflict initiated by the annexation of Crimea and fighting in Donbas has been ongoing for over 12 years.

According to the latest estimates by international analysts, the total number of victims on both sides – including the dead, wounded and missing – is approaching 2 million people. The tragic balance is complemented by losses among the civilian population. In addition, there is a massive migration crisis involving nearly 6 million refugees abroad.
Currently, the war is in the phase of exhausting positional fighting with slow dynamics of territorial changes, in which Russia controls approximately 18-20 percent. Ukrainian lands, and both sides are focusing on the mass use of long-range drones and attempts to break the deadlock on the eastern front.
