According to a statement sent by the institution, the District 1 Local Council approved on Friday a partnership with the Bucharest Streets Administration, subordinate to the Capital City Hall, for financing the infrastructure dedicated to cyclists.

Extensive modernization of the two arteries

The municipality's project aims to transform Ion Mihalache Boulevard and Căia Grivița into thoroughfares with modern infrastructure, including integrated bike lanes, safer sidewalks for pedestrians and more green spaces.

In parallel, Bucharest City Hall has started work on the modernization of the tram lines on Ion Mihalache Boulevard, where interventions are already being carried out to remove the old track.

Where the tracks will be laid out

The new bike lanes will be built on the section of Calea Griviței between Strada Buzești and Ion Mihalache Boulevard, as well as on the segment of Ion Mihalache Boulevard between Calea Griviței and Piața Victoriei.

For Ion Mihalache Boulevard, the project targets a length of approximately 3.5 kilometers, and for Calea Griviței approximately 3.9 kilometers. In both cases, the documentation is at the DALI stage (documentation for approval of intervention works).

European funding for urban mobility

Following the vote of the District 1 Local Council, the investment is prepared for accessing European funds through the Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Program 2021–2027, Priority 4, dedicated to sustainable urban mobility.
