The future of Viktor Orban. “He cited the example of Jarosław Kaczyński”

The weekly's sources said that Orban is aware that his party – Fidesz – as a political brand is so worn out that it cannot be used effectively, but no one yet has a specific idea what will replace it and under what name.

“Magyar Hang” added that “Orban is also aware of the fact that the obstacle to rebuilding his camp is himself.” The longest-serving prime minister in Hungarian history emphasizes that the completion of the reorganization process of his party may mean the end of his career. Orban – as the weekly reported – when talking about his future, cites the example of Jarosław Kaczyński and his role in Law and Justice. He emphasizes that he himself would be involved in the life of the party “only to a very limited extent.”

Fidesz plans to organize the so-called civic salons that would gather local party activists, intellectuals and opinion leaders in various parts of the country. These groups would establish an environmental action plan for the coming years, reported “Magyar Hang”.

Viktor Orban will not sit in the Hungarian parliament

Fidesz will organize its congress on June 13. During it, a decision will be made about who will lead the party. During the April meeting of the Fidesz board – as one of its participants stated after the conversation – Orban proposed to step down as party chairman, but the board members rejected the request.

Earlier, the outgoing prime minister announced that he would not take a seat in the new parliament, announcing that instead he would focus on reorganizing his political camp.

The Fidesz-KDNP coalition led by Orban lost the parliamentary elections on April 12 to the opposition TISZA group, which obtained a constitutional majority – 141 seats in the 199-seat National Assembly. The new government headed by Peter Magyar will be sworn in on May 9.
